Context

Self-help apps and online personality tests are boring and repetitive, aren’t they? A company in London thought so and approached me to create an audible story experience through which the users would learn about the nine main archetypes of the enneagram personality scheme.

  • It must have been an amalgam of persuasive storytelling and informative self-discovery content.

  • The rulebook of the mobile application design (UX/UI) required me to consider a satisfactory amount of gamification and progress in the narrative.

  • The characters had to be relatable to the prospective audience while displaying cultural diversity.

Challenges

The characters had to be relatable to the prospective audience while displaying cultural diversity.

I had several meetings with a team of UX/UI designers, developers, illustrators, sound designers, and personality experts. These meetings helped me to shape the main plot and character arcs. Then I sketched 14 dialogues based on personality traits and characteristics. Each piece served the purpose of mapping out the basics of archetypes and advancement in the main plot. Personality experts, as well as graphic and sound designers, gave notes on the first drafts.

Workflow

Each episode served the purpose of mapping out the basics of archetypes and advancement in the main plot.

Nine Strangers offers a 60-minute audio-story with sui generis artwork to its users. It is a quality mixture of educational content and compelling storytelling.
